Thomas of Otterbourne

Thomas of Otterbourne

Thomas of Otterbourne (active around 1400) was an English chronicler. His work covers in detail the reign of Richard II of England, and extends to 1420.

It was printed in 1732 by Thomas Hearne, with that of John Whethamstede. Antonia Gransden ["Historical Writing in England II" (1982), note p. 196.] rejects the identification with another Thomas of the same name, a Franciscan, active in the middle of the fourteenth century, and that was regarded as probable by the "Dictionary of National Biography". She tentatively identifies him as the rector in 1393 of Chingford.
