"Girls" is a pop song performed by British girl group Sugababes from their upcoming sixth studio album "Catfights and Spotlights". The song features an interpolation of Ernie K-Doe's track "Here Come the Girls". The single was released on 6 October 2008 in the United Kingdom. [http://www.sugababes.com/site/news/381/new-single-girls "New single - GIRLS"] . Sugababes.com. 12 August 2008. Retrieved 18 August 2008.] The single will feature remixes by Fred Falke, Dennis Christopher and Funkerman. The song is currently A- Listed on the BBC Radio 1 Playlist.

Release and reception

The single, according to the Sugababes' official website, was set to go on Digital Download on 29 September 2008 and on CD release on 6 October. Contrary to the official statements, the single was available to download via iTunes a week before, on 20 September.

"Popjustice" wrote that "one of the clever things about the track is that as well as not sounding like anything the Sugababes have done before while simultaneously sounding like a brilliant Sugababes single it also fits in perfectly with the brassy, Ronsonised soul sound of pop in 2008 (well, 2007) but, unlike a lot of stuff cluttering up the music industry at the moment, it doesn't sound like it's trying too hard to pull the sound off - one of the Sugababes' main selling points has always been how effortless their hitmaking seems, and it's a theme that continues with 'Girls' ". "Digital Spy" described it as a "brassy, funky, Ronsonish pop song" and that it is "smart, catchy and very, very 2008 - and it sounds pretty good on the radio too". [ [http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a131091/sugababes-girls.html Sugababes: 'Girls'] "Digital Spy"]

"The Guardian" wrote a less favourable review, saying, "One listen to the Sugababes' new single confirms all my suspicions. They've gone from an out there, edgy pop band to being as predictable as Atomic Kitten". [http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/08/the_sugababes_does_inter-band_tension_create_the_best_music.html]

The band pre-recorded a performance of "Girls" for BBC One's "Strictly Come Dancing" on 19 September, 2008 and was broadcast on 28 September.

Music video

On the 28 August British newspaper Daily Mirror posted an article with pictures from the video showing the Sugababes pole dancing in a club like scene. [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1050272/Sugababes-learn-pole-dancing-sexiest-video-yet.html] The music video for "Girls" premiered on Channel 4 on 6 September 2008 at 11:25. It features the girls pole-dancing in what seems to be an alternative club, focusing more on the other dancers during the chorus and on the girls while singing their verses. During their verses, Amelle Berrabah engages sensual dance moves with one of the fellow female dancers and Keisha teases a male dancer (who is actually her boyfriend), making this one of the most provocative videos the girls had ever done.
