The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts is a
performing arts center inGreen Bay, Wisconsin ,USA and part ofUniversity of Wisconsin-Green Bay . It is named after the university's founder, Dr. Edward Weidner. In addition to being the home of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's theatre and musical ensembles, the center also hosts individual entertainers and touring companies. The center seats about 2,021 people with three levels of seating and has a mandate of providing a venue accessible to both the university population and to the larger Green Bay community. The center opened on January 15, 1993.In December 2005, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced that they would no longer book Broadway performances, and would focus on campus and community performances, speakers, and educational programming. One year later, it was announced that a non-profit organization known as Weidner Center Presents would handle booking larger shows.
