The number of students placed has increased dramatically over the years. The college has a very good reputation with respect to its placements. Every year, the college manages to get about 88%Fact|date=January 2008 of its students placed in various companies, with an average salary package of around 2.75 lacs p.a. Criticism
Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology has been severely criticized by former staff and students for the high handed approach by management in day-to-day activities. Fact|date=January 2008The institution is said to enforce a strict code of conduct among students and such rules attract parents who perceived rules such as the male-female segregation to provide "safer" and conducive environment for education (for their children). The following are only some of the rules listed in the college prospectus.

*Separate seating arrangements for girls and boys in the mess.
*Dress Code - For boys: Formals. Jeans and T-shirts are not allowed. Girls: Full Saree/ 'Chudidhar with Duppatta in V shape'.The Institution has 120 buses which are made available to the students and the staff members for commuting not only from various points in the city and also from the suburbs.
