Quadriga (award)

Quadriga is an annual German award sponsored by "Werkstatt Deutschland", a non-profit organization based in Berlin. The award recognizes four people or groups for their commitment to innovation, renewal, and a pioneering spirit through political, economic, and cultural activities.

The award consists of a small statue resembling the quadriga on top of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and a cash prize of 25,000 Euros. The primary supporter of the award is the Swedish power company Vattenfall. "Werkstatt Deutschland" presents the award every year on German Unity Day, which commemorates German reunification. For the first two years, the award ceremony took place at Konzerthaus Berlin, since 2005 it has taken plance at Komische Oper Berlin, an opera house. The award has been presented by people such as Viktor Yushchenko, Bernard Kouchner, and Mikhail Gorbachev.
