Ric Blade is a retired American professional wrestler who most recently worked for Combat Zone Wrestling. He has feuded with Nick Mondo, Trent Acid and Low Ki.

Career

In addition to a background martial arts, Blade was trained by CZW owner John Zandig. At "CZW They Said It Couldn't Been Done", Blade fought Trent Acid for the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship. During the match, Blade went for a swan dive off the top of a rental truck, but he misjuged his jump and only the top of his head made connection with his opponent. However, Blade won the match as well as the title. A few years later he teamed up with Nick Mondo and fought the Backseat Boys (Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere), which saw Blade at the end of the match after a Senton bomb off the Champs Arena wall through two stacked tables with Acid on top, and Kashmere under. He also competed in a six man tag match, At Cage of Death 4, in 2002 he competed in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match, vs. the Backseat Boys with Mondo as his partner. But ended up losing.

Injury

On June 8, 2001, the company secured a TV taping for the show "Take 1". During the main event as apart of a dual 40ft balcony dive, Ric Blade was supposed to do a spot landing on Justice Pain, who laid upon two stacked tables, Nick Gage was to attempt the second dive with Lobo a few meters away, unfortunately Nick Gage slipped and fell from atop the balcony to the ground, Near the end of the contest, Blade Had already to put Pain up on a stacked set of tables and climbed to the top of the wall by the entrance way, which is a good 20 feet up. After connecting with the Swanton bomb, Blade landed unusually on the ground with his left leg and let out a blood curdling scream. He was on the ground and unable to move at all without pain.

EMT's rushed out to tend to Blade as his wife, Shorti, looked on in tears. Once being assisted to the back it was immediately known that something was seriously wrong with his leg and ankle. Right away it was plain to see that something had broken, but it would be unable to tell what until he was taken to the hospital.Flanked by several CZW superstars, Blade was rushed to a nearby hospital by an ambulance. Once there, X-rays revealed that he had suffered a compound fracture in his shin. One crew worker even had said that 'if he (Blade) were to try to stand up, his foot and ankle would have been dangling. The bone was attempted to be set back into place, but due to the nature of the break, it wasn't able to be done correctly. Blade had performed the move before without incident. Ironically, much of the reason he overshot Pain this one time was in an attempt to protect him. He underwent surgery the following day to have metal plates inserted in his leg to help the shin heal. He was off his feet for about six weeks and a return to the ring won't be realistic for about six months.

Personal life

Blade had working weekly in independents throughout the Northeast over the last two years, including CZW, Pennsylvania Wrestling Federation, Liberty All-Star Wrestling, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, and the Eastern Wrestling Federation. He retired in 2002 after a Ladder Match against Sonjay Dutt and has since gone on to acting. Blade and his wife had their first child shortly his retirement.
