Kalpana was a computer networking equipment manufacturer, located in Silicon Valley during the 1980s and 1990s. [cite web|title=The 10 Most Important Products of the Decade|author=Robert J. Kohlhepp|date=2000-10-02|accessdate=2008-02-25|publisher=Network Computing|url=http://www.networkcomputing.com/1119/1119f1products_5.html] Kalpana introduced the concept of a multi-port network switch in 1989.They also invented EtherChannel, a technology which provides additional inter-switch bandwidth by running several links in parallel. Kalpana was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1994.
