CS Buftea is a Romanian football club located in Buftea. The current club was founded in 2005, following a merger between the local team, who was playing in the fourth division, and Cimentul Fieni. [http://www.prosport.ro/fotbal-intern/liga-3/barajul-pentru-liga-a-ii-a-cs-buftea-2649345]

The team finished third in the third division in its first season, 2005-06. They were second in the 2007-08 season, which earned them a spot in the playoff for promotion to Liga II. They won the playoff and were promoted to the second division, following a 6-3 win against Aerostar Bacău and a 2-2 against Juventus Bucureşti.

Prior to the start of the 2007-08 season, Balkan Petroleum, the major shareholder of FC Timişoara, decided to invest in the club. The team is not officially associated with FC Timişoara. Balkan Petroleum are minority shareholders, with 49% of the stocks, while the City has the rights to 51% of the club. Following this deal, several players have been loaned out from Timişoara to Buftea, including Alin Raţiu and Gueye Mansour. [http://www.prosport.ro/fotbal-intern/liga-2/balkan-petroleum-se-va-implica-la-echipa-de-liga-secunda-din-buftea-2752043] It is unclear what implications Balkan Petroleum's decision to sell its share in FC Timişoara will have for the future of FC Buftea.
