Production

"Go Girl" was originally written by T-Pain and rewritten with Ciara. Also, it features T-Pain. According to BET's Access Granted, LaFace A&R executive Mark Pitts asked T-Pain to write and produce tracks for Ciara's third album "Fantasy Ride". T-Pain had several top ten hits and collaborated with Chris Brown's U.S. number one single, "Kiss Kiss". "I enjoyed the whole process" said Ciara, while on the "Go Girl" music video set. T-Pain said on the video set, "The record came together basically with me and Ciara working for days in the studio, and we got pressured to ... make a song." It is the only song they finished recording.

The demo recording of "Go Girl" titled, "Hood Girl" leaked on the internet in mid-August 2008. It contains alternate lyrics and limits T-Pain's vocals.

ingle release

"Go Girl" was not originally the first single intended from "Fantasy Ride". Two other songs "High Price" and "Work" from the album were contenders as the lead single.

In the United States, "Go Girl" was solicited to New York radio station Hot 97 on September 2, 2008. Two days later, the song was posted on Ciara's official MySpace page. Without an official release, the song began to gain radio airplay. On September 30, 2008, "Go Girl" was released in the worldwide as a digital download.

Music video

Directed by Melina Matsoukas, the music video was shot on September 19 and September 20, 2008. The video begins with Ciara sitting in a chair at a desk with a typewriter and four female dancers behind her in chairs. T-Pain introduces the single as Ciara stands atop a desk. The scene portrays a workplace theme with a dark twist to it, the ceiling lights flash on and off rapidly. The color schemes are that of black, silver, and gray. She is dressed in a black suit and thigh-high black stiletto boots. As the first verse begins, Ciara quickly gets into the choreography (one scene shows her dancing alone and the other with her back-up dancers), she and her dancers later perform seductress-type choreography on the chairs during the first chorus. In the second verse, Ciara sashays with a model strut into an elevator. She gets in and erratic movements follow, as this shows her "transformation". She then exits the elevator, now dressed in her "Robo-Girl" suit, as she and her dancers then begin to make robotic movements and choreography during the second chorus. Shortly after, T-Pain performs his verse as he freestyles in similar robotic movement and pop-locking. The video subsequently cuts straight to Ciara sitting on her motorcycle spinning around as sparks shoot from the back. Next, the music video cuts to a dance break, calling all the "Go Girls" to the dance floor. Ciara, dressed in a hoodie, black shades, and knee-high silver stiletto boots, slides down a pole and starts performing breakdown choregraphy with several dancers. Collective choreography from different aspects of the video are then showed as the video nears its ending. The video concludes with Ciara typing "Go Girl" on the typewriter. The video version of the song also features different edits from the album version.

The music video for "Go Girl" premiered on BET's "Access Granted" and Yahoo! Music on October 7, 2008. The following day, the video premiered on BET's 106 & Park.
