SMS Kaiserin Augusta

Seiner Majestät Schiff "Kaiserin Augusta" was a unique design of protected cruiser, built for the Kaiserliche Marine before the turn of the 20th Century.

The ship was launched January 1892 by Germania in Kiel. She was the first ship of the German navy to have three propellors. [Herwig p.27]

Originally armed with four 4.9 inch and eight 4.1 inch guns, this was revised four years after launching. Armamant altered again by World War one

In 1898 the ship was part of a squadron sent to Kiachow in China to seize control of the Shantung peninsula in order to create a German base in the region. [Herwig p.99-100]
