Ballet Theatre of Maryland is Maryland's only fully professional company and is based in Annapolis. The company was founded in 1987 by Edward Stewart, who was the Artistic Director until his death in 2002. Since then, the company has been directed by Dianna Cuatto.
Ballet Theatre of Maryland's School
BTM's School of Classical and Contemporary Dance resides at Maryland Hall and is the only school with a fully comprehensive classic and contemporary ballet training program for beginning through pre-professional and apprentice students of dance.
The school's professional faculty trains students from an anatomically-based syllabus with expertise in styles from such schools as the American Ballet Theatre, Ballet West, Connecticut Ballet Theatre, Richmond Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.
