History

The railway was opened in 1879 and the station in 1883 when the Great Northern began running between Leicester Belgrave Road and Peterborough North. This service was taken off and Medbourne station closed as a war economy in 1916, the track having by this time been singled. Shortly after the station closed, it was accidentally burned down. After 1916, the track was only used for goods, but survived until 1964.

Medbourne was also served by Ashley and Weston railway station on the London and North Western Railway. This station was known as Medbourne Bridge until 1879.[1]
