Power engineer

Power Engineers are in the discipline studying the conversion of energy from one form to another.

In Canada, it is required by law to have Power Engineers overseeing and operating nearly any instance in which pressure equipment is utilized....Power plants, nuclear plants, oil plants, distilleries, refrigeration plants, etc, all contain pressure equipment achieving the conversion of energy required for their end-product. Chief engineers at such plants are always Power Engineers.

The Power Engineer is diversified in many disciplines, including mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, metallurgical, computer, and a wide range of safety skills. It is a serious-minded discipline that requires both a strong background and a degree of creativity, to properly troubleshoot issues affecting the process.

There are five classes of Power Engineering, starting at the 5th class, and progressing up to the 1st class. It can take 10+ years for a devoted individual to achieve the rank of First Class Power Engineer.

Power Engineers have the designation PE after their name and belong to the Institute of Power Engineers.
