Ciarán McMenamin (born October 1, 1975,[1] Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland) is an Irish[2][3] actor who is now living in South London. He is best known for playing Matt Anderson, replacing Jason Flemyng as lead on Primeval.

Early life

McMenamin was born in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. He gained a baccalaureate degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1998.

Career

McMenamin has appeared on various BBC and ITV programmes, including as Cedric Crackenthorpe in 4:50 From Paddington, an episode of Marple (starring Geraldine McEwan), and in the Channel 4 comedy series The Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star. In 1999 he had the title role in the BBC One TV movie David Copperfield in which Daniel Radcliffe played his character as a boy. He also co-starred in the 2005 ITV series The Golden Hour as a doctor. He co-starred in the 2001 movie To End All Wars. In January 2009, he appeared in a one-off special episode of the BBC show Jonathan Creek, 'The Grinning Man', playing a grounds keeper. In 2008, McMenamin played the lead in the critically acclaimed award winning The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce. Shot over five weeks in the rain-forests of Tasmania, McMenamin received rave reviews for his performance as the Irish convict. He has now picked up the role of Matt Anderson in the science fiction TV show Primeval, taking the top billing and replacing both Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) and Danny Quinn (Jason Flemyng) as the series' main protagonist.

Awards

He won the Kenneth Branagh Renaissance Award (June 1997) and the Gold Medal RSAMD (1998).
