Janakpuri

Janakpuri is an upper middle class residential colony in West Delhi, India. It is divided into four major blocks (A, B, C and D), which are further subdivided into sub-blocks. Janakpuri was once the largest planned residential colony in Asia. Line 1 of the Delhi Metro passes through Janakpuri, with two stations at Janak Puri East and Janak Puri West. Janakpuri is a major commercial centre in West Delhi. The District Centre is a popular commercial precinct, with a theatre multiplex, restaurants, book shops, brand outlets, courts, the telephone exchange and the transport authority. Traditional markets can also be found in every block in Janakpuri, notably including the C-4-E market and the B-1 supermarket. Other notable facilities in the colony include the Mata Channan Devi Hospital, District Centre, C Block Coomunity Centre, Andhra Education Society NTRamarao Senior Secondary School, Delhi Tamil Sangham School and the Tihar Central Jail (one of the largest prison complexes in the world).
