TeamBath

TeamBath

TeamBath is home to the family of sports based at the University of Bath, and is host to some of the United Kingdom's top Olympic athletes. It has one of the best sports facilities in a UK University. [http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,8404-1246309.html]

TeamBath maintains several sports complexes on and around the University of Bath, Claverton Down site:
* Sports Training Village
* Founders Complex
* The Sulis club

Development of Facilities

Initially (1976)

Bath's sports facilities were centred around what is now known as the Founder's Hall, which includes:
* a multi-purpose sports hall
* a small fitness suite (closed in 2006 as the Department of Sports Development did not have the budget to provide the free gym with staff supervision)
* four squash courts
* a 25-metre indoor swimming pool

As well as a number of outdoor pitches.

Expansion (1992)

In 1992 a 50-metre indoor swimming pool, outdoor athletics track, an indoor tennis hall and an outdoor rifle and pistol range were constructed.Controversy surrounds the indoor pool as it is not to Olympic specification. Although the pool is 50m long, once the tiles were added to the walls the pool became two tile widths short of 50m so all times can not be counted as valid.

ports Training Village (2003-2004)

The Sports Training Village and the English Institute of Sport for South West England, a lottery-funded extension opened in two phases in 2003 and 2004. It added the following facilities:
*new multi-purpose sport halls (including basketball, netball and badminton courts)
*eight indoor tennis courts
*indoor athletics facilities
*a large fitness suite
*a judo/karate/jitsu dojo
*and suites supporting sports science and sports medicine needs

Other facilities

*astroturf and natural football pitches
*rugby grounds
