Richard Bond

Richard N. Bond is a former Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and currently a government relations consultant based in Washington, DC. His firm, Bond & Company, specializes in strategic consulting services at both the federal and state level.

Bond served in a variety of positions at the Republican National Committee under Presidents Ford, Reagan, and Bush prior to being elected Chairman in 1992. Despite the President’s tough defeat that year, the GOP held their ground in the U.S. Senate and gained 10 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives - the only time in history House seats have been gained during a presidential loss. The GOP also held their gubernatorial seats and net gained control of seven additional state legislative chambers.

In 1993, when Bond passed the reins of the RNC to now Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, he left his successor with a budget surplus of over four million dollars, thus enabling the GOP to quickly regain its footing after losing the White House.

In addition to his credentials at the RNC, Bond has served five presidential campaigns over the past twenty years, including the management of fifty state operations as national political director in Bush’s successful 1988 presidential campaign. Government posts include Deputy Chief of Staff to Vice President Bush, congressional press secretary, and member of the Board of Directors of the United States Peace Corps.

Bond currently serves as a Trustee for the National Theodore Roosevelt Association, an Advisory Council member of the George Bush Presidential Library at Texas A & M University, and member of the Board of Directors of the University of Phoenix, the country’s largest private sector university.

Bond remains a frequent and effective media spokesman for the Republican Party, commenting on national issues and current political trends, with regular appearances on network television and radio shows. The author of over forty articles on politics and government, Bond has also lectured at many of the nation’s top colleges and universities, and he is regularly quoted in a variety of national news magazines and major newspapers.

Bond earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy from Fordham University and a master’s degree in Government from Georgetown University. He has two sons, Matthew, 32, a juvenile probation officer; and Michael, 25, a college student majoring in religious studies.
