Bowman Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary on western Baffin Island within part of the Great Plain of the Koukdjuak in Northern Canada's territory of Nunavut. Geography

At 107,900 hectares in size, [cite web |url=http://www.unep-wcmc.org/wdpa/sitedetails.cfm?siteid=18706&level=nat |title=Bowman Bay (Site Code: 18706) |accessdate=2008-09-06 |publisher=World Commission on Protected Areas] the sanctuary is located on the eastern shore of Foxe Basin at convert|0|m|ft above sea level, and its size is convert|1079|km2|sqmi. It is north of the Foxe Peninsula.

History and conservation

During J. Dewey Soper's 1928-31 Arctic expedition in this area, he located the Blue Goose ("C. c. caerulescens") nesting grounds on Bluegoose Plain by Bowman Bay. It received national legal protection under the Wildlife Act of 2003.
