Ken Maddison

Ken Maddison

Ken Maddison is an Australian former rugby league footballer of the 1960s and 70s. He played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for the St. George Dragons and later the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks (whom he captained) and also represented New South Wales and Australia.

Starting his first-grade football career in the centres with St. George in 1965, Maddison appeared in his first grand final the following year, the last of the Dragons' record-breaking 11 consecutive premiership wins. Brother of fellow Dragon Keith Maddison, he played representative football for Australia and also a further grand final with the red and whites in 1971 which was lost to Souths. The following season he moved to the Cronulla club, playing in the second row and in 1973 became the first forward to win the Rothmans Medal for best and fairest player in the League, edging out Ron Coote by just one point. He also scored a personal best 8 tries that year before playing in Cronulla's first grand final, which was lost to Manly 10 - 7. He then toured Europe with the 1973 Kangaroos, scoring two tries in the 3rd and deciding Test against Great Britain to top off a tremendous year of football. Maddison continued playing for Cronulla until 1975.

In 2006, Maddison was named at second-row in a Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks dream team.
