Spencer V. Jones

Spencer Virgil Jones (born 17 September 1945 in Safford, Arizona) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2002. He is a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy.

Biography

Jones was raised in the largely Latter-day Saint town of Virden, New Mexico. He served as a Mormon missionary in the Argentina North Mission of the LDS Church. Jones received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He was a businessman and business owner, in the furniture and cattle businesses.

Jones is married to Joyce Elizabeth Mathews; they are the parents of three children.

Prior to becoming a general authority, Jones served in several positions in the LDS Church, including as a bishop. Jones was called as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy in October 2002. Prior to this, he had been an area seventy in the Caribbean Area of the church, one of the few area seventies to have acted as such in an area where they had not previously lived. Jones has also served as president of the Chile Antofagasta Mission of the church.

Jones has been the president of the Central America Area of the church. He presided at the grounbreaking of the Tegucigalpa Honduras Temple. [http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/tegucigalpa/]
