Yahweh and Allah

Yahweh and Allah

Allah [http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/tawheed/conceptofgod.html] and Yahweh are the personal names of the Gods of the Quran and Bible, respectively. They share many similarities and many dissimilarities.

imilarities

Both Allah and Yahweh are creator gods. Both are omnipotent, omnibenevolent and omnipresent, among other things.

Dis-similarities

Unlike Yahweh in whose image human have been created according to , Allah didn't create humans in his own image. [ [http://www.memritv.org/clip_transcript/en/1849.htm] ]

Furthermore, whereas Yahweh in the Old Testament favors the people of Israel over other nations ("We are the chosen nation" [http://www.covenantseminary.edu/worldwide/en/CC310/CC310_T_23.html] ), Allah doesn't show any favoritism towards any individual or nation. [http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/tawheed/conceptofgod.html]

Allah does not have any sons according to Quran|23|91 while Jesus Christ is not only the Son of God [http://history.hanover.edu/courses/excerpts/344tert.html] but also Yahweh himself. Albeit the Greek New Testament does not use the word "Yahweh," [ [http://www.covenantseminary.edu/worldwide/en/CC310/CC310_SG_21.pdf] ] the Old Testament titles for Yahweh like "redeemer" are applied in the New Testament to Jesus. [ [http://www.gotquestions.org/deity-of-Christ.html] ] Moreover, the kurios and theos which are substituted for Yahweh in the Septuagint are used in reference to Jesus in the Greek New Testament.

Disputes

Some Christian evangelical leaders have denounced Allah as a false god. [ [http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSL13754020080731?pageNumber=1&virtualBrandChannel=0] ] Other prominent Christian theologians have also stated that Allah is not the same being as Yahweh; they include James White [http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php?blogid=1&archive=2007-04&catid=11] , Pat Robertson [ [http://www.cbn.com/700club/features/bringiton/falsereligions-index.aspx] ] , Albert Mohler [http://www.albertmohler.com/blog_read.php?id=991] , John F. MacArthur [http://www.ondoctrine.com/2mac0007.htm] Allah has even been compared to Baal. [http://britam.org/StephenSpykermanIslam.html]

In his critique of Allah, Pat Robertson has focused on the soteriology of Islam:

The God of the Bible is a God of love and redemption, who sent His Son into the world to die for our sins. Allah tells people to die for him in order to get salvation [http://www.cbn.com/700club/features/bringiton/falsereligions-index.aspx:]

On the other hand, the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" states that Muslims along with Roman Catholics adore the same "one, merciful God." [http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/2002/0207bt.asp] [http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P29.HTM#-149] Pope Benedict XVI did not differentiate between Yahweh and Allah in the course of the his Islam controversy in 2006. George W. Bush has likewise stated,"I believe we [Christians and Muslims] worship the same God." [ [http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=7760C51D-4041-4FAD-BBA9-20DCE8D96D54] ]
