Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada

The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) is an organization of seminaries and other graduate schools of theology. It is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has more than 250 member schools. Its earlier name was the American Association of Theological Schools.

From the ATS website::"The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) is a membership organization of more than 250 graduate schools that conduct post-baccalaureate professional and academic degree programs to educate persons for the practice of ministry and for teaching and research in the theological disciplines. ":"The mission of The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada is to promote the improvement and enhancement of theological schools to the benefit of communities of faith and the broader public." Accreditation

The ATS Commission on Accrediting provides accreditation for graduate schools of theology. The Commission is made up of all member schools that are themselves accredited or are candidates for accrediting. It is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and United States Department of Education to accredit schools. ATS should not be confused with regional accreditation.

Requirements

Schools accredited by "ATS" generally require the completion of three years of full-time ministry after the initial theological degree, normally the Master of Divinity (MDiv) before entering any Doctor of Ministry program.
