Hanna-Barbera (film series)

The Hanna-Barbera film series are a series of theatrical films based on popular Hanna Barbera shows released to theaters between 1964 - 2009 and beyond by Hanna-Barbera Productions. Some films were produced live-action, while others were produced in animation like the characters themselves. All films have been contributed to by either or both William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, excluding "" and "The Jetsons", which began production following their deaths.

History

The first Hanna-Barbera film to be released to theaters was "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!" in 1964, which was distributed by Columbia Pictures. The next theatrical film, also distributed by Columbia, was "The Man Called Flintstone" in 1966. In the 1990s, Hanna-Barbera produced the ride film for "The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera" at Universal Studios Florida, as well as the animated feature "'" and two live-action features, "The Flintstones" and it's follower "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas", all four of which were distributed by Universal Studios. In the 2000s, Hanna-Barbera produced 4 theatrical films; "Josie and the Pussycats", distributed by Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Universal, and "Scooby-Doo" and it's follower, "'", both distributed by Warner Bros. Hanna-Barbera also helped to produce the Cartoon Network theatrical film "The Powerpuff Girls Movie", distribted by Warner.

Future

Two more live-action films produced by Hanna-Barbera, "The Jetsons" and the third Scooby-Doo film "", are currently in production, and are slated for release in 2009, with "The Jetsons" being distributed by Warner and Universal, and "Scooby-Doo: In The Beginning" being distributed by Warner. In addition, Warner has optioned the film rights to produce live-action adaptations of "Jonny Quest" and "Yogi Bear" for potential 2010 and 2011 releases. The Jonny Quest adaptation is currently in pre-production.
