Jonathan Dwyer (born July 26, 1989) is the starting sophomore running back for the 2008 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team. Dwyer is more of a power running back but also has great speed.

Biography

High school football career

He was a highly recruited prospect out of Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was a four star prospect and was wanted by many of the top football teams in the NCAA.

Collegiate football career

2007 season

Dwyer got plenty of playing time last year as the backup running back to senior Tashard Choice. He played in all thirteen games during his freshman year. Tashard Choice was battling leg injuries during the course of the 2007 season which is big part of why Dwyer got to be on the field so much. Dwyer rushed for 436 yards on 82 attempts and 9 touchdowns. He had enough success on the football field that he was named to the 2007 ACC All Freshman Team. It was a good thing that Dwyer got a lot of playing time because it would make him a better running back for the 2008 season.

2008 season

Dwyer is expected to be one of the nation’s top running backs for the 2008 season. Dwyer was named as a candidate for the Doak Walker award which is the nation’s top running back. Through the first four games of the 2008 season, Dwyer already has 389 rushing yards on just 48 attempts with four touchdowns.

Jonathan Dwyer is a B-back this year which is a position that requires more power running. He is a versatile player by not only running the ball but also has good hands for catching the ball. Dwyer may be used some during the season as an A-back or he may be put in the slot back position, but will primarily be the B-back.
