Rivka Golani

Rivka Golani (b. Tel Aviv, 1946) is a Canadian violist.

Born in Israel, Ms. Golani became a Canadian citizen in 1983; and a British citizen in 1997. Along with her recording career and worldwide solo performances, she teaches at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and Trinity College of Music, London. She has also taught at the University of Toronto and The Royal Academy of Music. She lives in London, England.

Composers have written over 250 works for her, of which more than 60 are concertos. She has also recorded important transcriptions for the viola including Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor with the Royal Philharmonic and the Six Bach solo violoncello Suites, Chaconne and J.S. Bach / Z. Kodaly (trans.) Chromatic Fantasy (CBC Records). Ms. Golani has numerous other recordings as soloist with internationally acclaimed orchestras performing standand works for the viola (e.g. the Bartok concerto) as well as several works composed for her. Ms. Golani has performed many times at the Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto), Carnegie Hall (New York), the Wigmore Hall (London), and the last night at the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Familiar to audiences throughout the world, Rivka Golani has also performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony, BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw, Budapest Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, Montreal Symphony, CBC Vancouver orchestra and many others.
