Ramesses (also commonly spelled "Ramses" pronEng|ˈræmsiːz or "Rameses" IPA|/ˈræməsiːz/) is the name conventionally given in English transliteration to eleven Egyptian pharaohs of the later New Kingdom period. The name essentially translates as "Born of the sun-god Ra".
