Hinakaimauliawa

Hinakaimauliawa, a Princess or High Chiefess of Oahu, was the District Chieftain or Queen of Koolau on the island Oahu. During her days, Oahu was divided among the descendants of Maweke, the legendary blue blood alii from which the Northern royal bloodlines sprouted.

Hinakaimauliawa was the granddaughter of Maweke, King of Oahu and Naiolaukea, Queen Consort of Oahu. [*Citation

isbn = 0824826388.] She was the only daughter of Kalehenui of Koolau by his wife the High Chiefess Kahinalu. Her first cousins were Kumuhonua, Olopana, Moikeha, Hainaloko, Laakona, Nuakea, and Moi.

She succeeded her father as ruler of Koolau after his death. On the deeds and exploits of Hinakaimauliawa personally the legends are silent. But she probably ruled with a steady hand and Koolau must have prospered under her rule or her name would have been erased from history, like it is in the case of many other chiefs. Hinakaimauliawa married the High Chief Kahiwakaapu, who may have been of a rank corresponding to her own but there exist no allusion to his pedigree in the legends or genealogies now extant. The first-born, and perhaps their only issue, was the High Chiefess Mualani (Muolani). She and her father were at the head of Koolau line of chiefs. And from Hinakaimauliawa, through her daughter Mualani, descends Kaulaulaokalani, King of Koolau in Lakona's day; Kalaniuli, father of Lupekapu and Hoohila; Laninui-a-kaihupee, chief of Koolau and son-in-law of Piilani of Maui; and Kuialoakalailai, mother of Kaunui-a-Kanehoalani and wife of Kanehoalani. All Kings of Oahu, from Kuamanuia down to the Kahahana, were descendants of Kalehenui and his daughter Hinakaimauliawa, due to the marriage of Kalaimanuia, Kuamanuia's mother, to Lupekapu, a descendant of his family mentioned above.
