The school is named after the esteemed Aminuddin Baki, who has been granted the soubriquet "Bapa Pendidikan Malaysia" [cite web|title=Aminuddin Baki|url=http://ms.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aminuddin_Baki#Pidato_Umum_Aminuddin_Baki] (Father of Malaysian Education).

* The school was formed. Male students were put up at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor Bahru, female students were put up at S.M. (P) Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru.1964
* The current school complex was built and ready to be used.1968
* Remove class students were accepted into the school. SABJB was officially inaugarated by the then Minister of Education, YB Encik Mohd. Khir Johari.1970
* Form 4 students were first accepted into the school.1986
* SABJB celebrated its silver jubilee which was officiated by then Minister of Education, YB Datuk Abdulllah Ahmad Badawi.1988
* Two Form 6 classes (arts stream) were started.2003
* The principal, Puan Hajah Satia Binti Kasim, was appointed as the district education officer (Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah), for Johor Bahru, the first woman to hold the position.School Song

Form six, or pre-university, students are prepared for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. Form six students are divided into lower 6 (half a year) and upper six (one year).
Co-curriculum
Each student is required to join one uniformed body, one club and one sport. In addition, each student is assigned to one of the four sport houses. The four sport houses compete in the annual Sports Day (Kejohanan Olahraga), usually held in the last week of February.
