Tokbox

Tokbox

Tokbox is a startup providing free video calling, video conferencing and instant messaging services through an online application, similar to Skype. Tokbox also allows users to create video posts, similar to text-based Twitter, that can be embedded on other web sites. The user can allow TokBox to access a buddy list from popular instant message programs.

Unique features

Unlike most video conferencing applications which require software to be installed on all computers involved, TokBox only requires that one person has a profile. This user can then send links to other users, through e-mail or an instant message program, so that they can join the conference. No special software is necessary because the service utilizes Adobe Flash.

Tokbox does not limit the number of people involved in a video conference, although the company states that 20-25 computers is the useful limit.

Video messages can be recorded and sent to other Tokbox users or any e-mail address.

Video calls can be made to other Tokbox users, or IM buddies which are loaded into TokBox.

Video chat and multiple person instant messaging text chat.
