James Blair Bibby (born October 29, 1944 in Franklinton, North Carolina) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and Pittsburgh Pirates from by|1972 to by|1984.

Career

Bibby was primarily a starting pitcher, although he also worked in relief towards the latter part of his career. He was an integral part of the by|1979 Pirates team, who won the 1979 World Series.

On July 30, 1973, while with the Rangers, he pitched a no-hitter against the Oakland Athletics, the first no-hitter in franchise history (from by|1961 to by|1971 the franchise had been known as the Washington Senators).

On May 19, 1981, at the age of 36 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bibby gave up a leadoff single to the Atlanta Braves' Terry Harper, then was perfect for the remainder of the game, proceeding to retire the next 27 straight batters. He pitched nine innings for the 5-0 shutout. On top of that he hit two doubles, going 2 for 3, and drove in a run and scored a run.

Personal

Bibby is the oldest brother of basketball player Henry Bibby and uncle of current NBA player Mike Bibby. He is married to Jacqueline Ann (Jordan) Bibby and has two daughters, Tamara Bibby of Washington, DC and Tanya Bibby (McClain) of Charlotte, NC.
