PSX was a Sony digital video recorder with fully integrated PlayStation and PlayStation 2 video game consoles. Since it was designed to be a general-function audiovisual device, it was marketed by the main Sony Corporation and was released only in Japan on December 13, 2003.

Features

The PSX is a fully functional digital video recorder with RF, S-Video and composite inputs. It is capable to tune analog VHF and CATV. It comes with a remote control and can be also linked with the PlayStation Portable device to transfer videos and music via USB ports. Curiously the PSX has any joystick on retail package. A special DualShock 2 USB ceramic-white was released separately [http://www.psx.sony.co.jp/product/DESR-7700_5700/acc.html] . However, original DualShocks are fully supported by two joystick ports in the back side and memory cards are also supported via port in the front side. The PSX is also known for its introduction of Sony's XMB graphical user interface, used later on PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, 2008 Z model TVs and other Sony devices.

Models

The DESR-5000 and DESR-7000 were launch models and featured a 160 and 250 GB HDD. Later improved DESR-7000 models was launched in 2004 with bigger hard disks and supporting improved video, photo and music editing tools.
