David J. Reimer

David Reimer was born in Steinbach, Manitoba. He attended Bible Collge from 1980 to 1985, received a ministry license, and was appointed as an associate pastor in Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 1986. He campaigned as a CHP candidate for the Wetaskiwin riding in the 1988 federal election, and received 3,087 votes for a fifth-place finish. This result remains one of the best in CHP history.

He returned to Steinbach in 1991, and started the Shalom Family Worship Centre two years later. [http://www.chp.ca/manitobaRidings/] Reimer was elected to the Manitoba Provincial Council of the CHP in 1992, and later three terms as its national Prayer, Ethics and Personnel Director. In the late 1990s, he organized weekly meetings at the Shalom Family Worship Centre to pray that local Steinbach officials receive divine guidance in their deliberations ("Winnipeg Free Press", 13 January 1999).

In 2002, Reimer protested against a provincial law granting adoption rights to same-sex couples ("WFP", 31 July 2002). Reimer is the interim deputy leader of the CHP. He campaigned in Portage—Lisgar for the 2004 and 2006 elections. He spent over $10,000 in the 2004 campaign, a large sum for a minor-party candidate. His wife, Katharine Reimer, has also campaigned for the party.
