Acision

Acision

Acision is a privately held mobile communications network infrastructure company specialising in messaging and charging systems that enable popular services such as Short message service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), IP messaging, mobile internet browsing and voicemail.

History

Acision's roots lie in Irish mobile telecommunications pioneers Aldiscon, who developed the first Short Message Service Centre (SMSC), "Telepath", and its now standardized protocol SMPP in 1993.

Aldiscon was acquired by UK-based Logica in 1997, which merged with CMG in 2002 to form LogicaCMG. Acision was born on February 20, 2007, when LogicaCMG Telecom Products was sold for £265m (US $525m) to private investors Atlantic Bridge Ventures and Access Industries and became known as Acision. As of 2008, Acision has over 300 mobile operators as customers who serve over a billion end users, and over 50 per cent of global messaging traffic is generated through Acision's platforms. The company employs approximately 1,700 people in 22 countries across six continents. [http://www.accessindustries.com/index.php?p=investments]
