The Appalachian State Mountaineers basketball team is the college basketball team at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The Mountaineers have competed in the Southern Conference since 1972, and are currently a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Appalachian plays their home games at the Geoge M. Holmes Convocation Center. The Appalachian basketball team is currently coached by Houston Fancher. Other notable past coaches include Press Maravich, Bobby Cremins, and Buzz Peterson. The Mountaineers have appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice, 1979 and 2000, and appeared in the National Invitation Tournament in 2007.
