Active Alfie
Active Alfie is the mascot for JCI Ireland's Fifty ways [The 50 ways can be found at www.fifty-ways.com] [http://www.fifty-ways.com Fifty Ways Website] to Active Citizenship. This is a project where the JCI members around Ireland are looking to get Citizens to become more active. The fifty ways can be viewed on the website [http://www.fifty-ways.com Fifty Ways Website] and they fall into four main categories. [Info about JCI can be found at www.jci.cc] [Info on JCI Ireland can be found at www.jci-ireland.org] [http://jci-ireland.org JCI Ireland Website]
Voluntarily: This group is where members of the community will freely give-up a few hours of their time every week to help a charity or club in there area in the general activities that they are doing to help them improve civic life.
Environment: People who pledge to become more active in the environmental sector will be pledging to promote a greener cleaner Ireland and they have the planet at heart when they start to recycle or plant trees.
Civic: This section involves pledges from people who are looking to do the right thing in community by interacting with it more on many levels. Civic service can involve voting in local elections, starting a neighbourhood watch or even giving blood.
Community Spirit: If a community has good community spirit everything in that community seems to flow like a well oiled machine. People smile at each other walking down the street and they are happy to do selfless acts for their fellow citizens. Some of the ways to help community spirit are to plant flowers in a community area, organise to clean a local public area or even smile at your neighbours and have a few nice words for everyone you meet.
