Copenhagen tobacco

Copenhagen Snuff is a brand of United States dipping tobacco (a tobacco snuff product) dating back to 1822; it is produced by the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company. It is a finely ground tobacco in three traditional textures: Fine Cut, Long Cut, and pouches. Copenhagen tobacco is typically packaged in a 1.2 oz fiberboard can with a metal lid. Copenhagen contains 6.23 milligrams of unprotonated nicotine per gram. History

George Weyman, the inventor of Copenhagen snuff, opened his tobacco shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1822 selling Copenhagen Snuff. In April 1845, Weyman's tobacco shop was one of the few businesses to survive the Pittsburgh Fire. Nearly two decades later, George Weyman relinquished control of the shop to his sons William and Benjamin Weyman. Following their father's death in 1870, William and Benjamin officially adopted the name Weyman & Bros.

The company was acquired by the American Tobacco Company (ATC) in 1905, and renamed the "Weyman-Bruton Company" (WBC) after ATC broke up in 1911. By 1922, WBC had taken over and renamed their company after the United States Tobacco Company. Company headquarters was relocated to Greenwich, Connecticut in 1970. United States Tobacco Company renamed itself the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company in 2001. Copenhagen comes in a variety of flavorings.
