Corporate History

Platts traces its history back to 1909. That year, Warren Platt, with the motivation to ensure that the voice of independent oil men could be heard, began publishing a monthly news magazine called National Petroleum News. Due to World War I this became weekly in 1917, and finally daily in 1923, at which point Platt formed "Platts Oilgram" to publish the newsletter. In 1953 Warren Platt sold his petroleum reporting business to "The McGraw-Hill Companies".

In 2000 McGraw-Hill merged Platts with other like assets to turn the company into a provider of energy information. It is part of the Information & Media Services group of McGraw-Hill, which also includes Businessweek & Aviation Weekcite web| title=Platts History | url=http://www.platts.com/About%20Platts/history.html | accessdate=May 14 | accessyear=2007 ]
