Transilvania University of Braşov is a public university awarding bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees located in Braşov, Romania.

History

The roots of the university date back to 1940 when the Academy of Commercial and Industrial Studies was established. In 1948 the Institute of Forestry was established, and in 1949, the Institute of Mechanics.

In 1953, the Institute of Forestry merged with the Institute of Mechanics under the name of Polytechnic Institute of Brasov. In 1959 the Wood Industrialization Department was formed, and in 1964 the Department of Technology. In 1960 the Pedagogical Institute (Mathematics, Physics - Chemistry, Biology) and in 1969 the Department of Music were formed.

In 1971 the Polytechnic Institute and the Pedagogical Institute were merged and together were named the University of Brasov. In 1991 the University was renamed Transilvania University of Brasov.
