KWBF ("My42"), is an affiliate of the Fox Entertainment-owned MyNetworkTV in Little Rock, Arkansas, currently owned by Equity Media Holdings in a duopoly with Univision affiliate KLRA-LP 58 and which also operates repeater station KWBF-LP channel 47 in Sheridan, Arkansas. KWBF is slated for a sale to Irving, Texas-based Nexstar Broadcasting Group, which owns Little Rock NBC affiliate KARK-TV, potentially shifting the station into a different duopoly. The station broadcasts its analog signal on UHF channel 42 and its digital signal broadcasts on UHF channel 44.

History

After purchasing the license from defunct station KVUT, Paxson Communications (now ION Media Networks) began broadcasting on channel 42 on December 1,1997. The station signed on as KYPX, an affiliate of Paxson's network PAX. In 2001, after Paxson sold the station to Equity, it swapped affiliations with new sister station KKYK-TV (now KKYK-DT) and became an affiliate of The WB.

Recently, the station made headlines when it decided to air "The Book of Daniel" after the NBC affiliate KARK declined to do so. Because of the controversial nature of the series, the station came under fire for this, and had to hire extra security after threats were made against the station.

In February 2006, News Corporation announced the formation of a new network, MyNetworkTV, one month after UPN and The WB announced they would merge into The CW. On March 30, Equity announced that KWBF would be an affiliate of MyNetworkTV, which launched in early September.

KWBF's digital station carries its own HDTV signal as channel 42.1, and the SDTV signal of Equity sister station KKYK-DT (RTN) on channel 42.2. Due to the collapse of the KATV Tower, the HDTV signal of Little Rock ABC affiliate KATV has replaced Equity's KHUG-LP (LAT TV) on channel 42.3; that channel now remaps to 7.1 on many HDTVs.
