St Paul Church is a Church of England church in Grange-Over-Sands, Cumbria, England. It was built in 1907. Its benefice is united with those of St Mary, Allithwiate, St Mary and St Michael, Cartmel, St Peter, Field Broughton, St John the Baptist, Flookburgh, Grange Fell Church, Grange-over-Sands, and St Paul, Lindale.[1] It has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage.[2]

History

The Church was designed by Mr T D Barry of Liverpool. The first stone was laid in 1852 by the Earl of Burlington. The church was consecrated by the then Bishop of Chester,Dr John Graham, on the 13th October 1853. It became part of the Diocese of Carlisle in 1856 and the first vicar was The Revd. Wilson Rigg, it cost £2,100 to build. The Church was expanded in 1861, 1867 and 1875 the church was consecrated again on 6 June 1876 by the then Bishop of Carlisle, Harvey Goodwin. It became part of a parish on 14 April 1884[3]. The Furness Railway clock tower was Erected outside the church in 1912. A church hall was built a short distance away in 1912

Today

The church is part of the Diocese of Carlisle, Archdeaconry of Westmorland & Furness and the Deanery of Windermere. Inside Windermere it is the main church in the parish of St. Paul Grange-Over-Sands along with the smaller Grange Fell church, both of which share the same vicar who is currently The Revd. Canon Nicholas Ash.[4]
