History

Prior to the first world war there was a West Wellington football competition.[1] The formation of the Smithton Football Club in 1919 prompted a reorganization of football in the north west. The Circular Head Football Association was formed in 1919 and it replaced the West Wellington Football Association.

The original clubs were Forest, Irishtown, Smithton and Stanley. After a break because of the 2nd World War, football resumed in 1945. Smithton joined the NWFU in 1980 , the departure of Smithton prompted the promotion of Redpa and Trowutta from the reserve grade.
