The squad is coached by Rob Hjerling. The Bulldogs are members of the Southern Conference and have been conference champions in 1967 and 2004. Dan Thompson is the only Citadel wrester to reach All-Americas status at the NCAA Wrestling Team Championship. Coach Hjerling is a 1994 graduate of American University. He was named the Southern Conference's most outstanding collegiate wrestling coach in 2004. Prior to coming to The Citadel he was an assistant coach for the George Mason Patriots and American Eagles. He began his coaching career as an assitant at Manheim Township High School in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Hjerling is assisted by Jeff Ragan, Evan Sola, and Keegan Mueller.[1]
