Career

She started her career at Univision affiliate KTVW-Channel 33. She also worked at quepasa.com from 1999-2000 as an on-line bilingual journalist. In 2001, while working for KTVK's Spanish-language sister station, MAS Arizona, Rivero won her first Rocky Mountain Emmy for her story: In Search of the American Dream. A story of four illegal immigrants who risked it all for a shot at a better life. That same year Rivero also received two Associated Press awards.

In 2007, Rivero won her second Rocky Mountain Emmy award for: Veronica Destiny, a story about a young mother from Yuma, Arizona who was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer and the sacrifices she made to give her unborn child a chance at life.

In 2007, Rivero gave a touching tribute to a fallen colleague and close friend killed on July 27, 2007 when two news helicopters collided in mid-air while covering a police pursuit in downtown Phoenix. Four journalists were killed that day: KTVK pilot Scott Bowerbank and KTVK photojournalist Jim Cox. Also, KNXV pilot Craig Smith and KNXV photojournalist Rick Krolak.

The following year Rivero and KTVK photojournalist Mike Hernandez traveled to Washington, D.C. to cover the Fallen Journalist Memorial ceremony at the Newseum. The names of the four journalists' killed in the Phoenix helicopter collision were added to the memorial.

In November 2010, Rivero was recognized as one of the Delaware Valley's Most Influential Latinos by IMPACTO Newspaper.[4]
