Claudio Bellini (born 1963) is an Italian-born architect and designer based in Milan. His activities range from architecture and urban planning to product and furniture design for Italian and international companies including Poltrona Frau, Walter Knoll, Samsung, Vitra, etc.

Life and career

Claudio Bellini is the son of the world renowned Italian designer and architect Mario Bellini. Since he was very young he was evolving in his father work where he found himself fascinated from the creative world. In 1990 he graduated from the Politecnico di Milano where he attended the Faculty of Architecture and Industrial Design. Immediately after his studies, he started to work very close with his father in Mario Bellini Associates where he embarked on a series of international experiences, taking part in research projects in the fields of industrial, architecture and furniture design. In 1998 Claudio Bellini introduces a completely new vision in the contemporary office landscape with his revolutionary design TW collection for Frezza. His expertise in office furniture as well as his collaboration with well known international companies (Steelcase, Vitra, Haworth, Tecno, etc.) make him on of the most influential designers today.

In 1996 along with his father he founded the Atelier Bellini where he has been engaged in architectural projects, product and furniture design both in Italy and abroad and he participated in numerous architecture competitions.

In 2003 he became art director for Barazzoni and he turned the company into one of the most successful companies in Italy in the sector of kitchen tools.

In 2006 Bellini founded the Claudio Bellini Design+Design where he mostly contacts technological research and studies on the potential use of new materials. He designs products and furniture for leading Italian and international companies (Agape, Artemide, Caimi Brevetti, Casamania,[1] Castaldi, De Sede, Driade,[2] Fiam, Flou, Fiat, Frezza, Poltrona Frau,[3] Natuzzi, Samsung, Schiavello, Serralunga, Steelcase, Vitra (furniture),[4] Walter Knoll,[5] Gebrüder Thonet,[6] Mascagni,[7] JCDecaux, Plank, Tecno,Buttler Gum and iGuzzini among others).

During his activity, he has greatly contributed to Natuzzi by releasing not only the designs for the furniture collections but he also contacted the research for the point of purchase methodology (POP), their concept stores, showrooms and exhibition spaces.

Since 2005 he has held lectures and conferences in Design and Furniture Design in Genoa Polytechnic and all over the world (Design Summit - Round table, Hong Kong 2007, ICE conference, etc.) and his work has been extensively published. He has won many prizes, among which the Red Dot and iF product design award. He has been also selected for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro (1998, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008).[8]

Claudio Bellini Design+Design has been selected by the Spanish magazine El Pais as one of the ten most creative European design studios (Diez en diseno europeo, in El Pais Semanal (Spain), April 2007, pp. 22).
