He was the son of John II of Oldenburg and Hedwig of Diepholz.[1] Conrad married Ingeborg, the daughter of Count Gerard IV of Holstein-Plön. Four children were born of this union:

  1. Conrad II, Count of Oldenburg (d. 1401)
  2. Gerard of Oldenburg (killed in action 1368 while invading Rüstringen)
  3. Agnes of Oldenburg married Count Ludwig von Winstorf
  4. Christian V, Count of Oldenburg

Conrad I of Oldenburg succeeded his brother John III of Oldenburg in 1344.

Conrad I of Oldenburg is also the male-line ancestor of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and thus of Charles, Prince of Wales.
