Simón Castro Alfonseca (born April 9, 1988 in San Jose de los Llanos, Dominican Republic) is a minor league baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization, and currently plays for the Class AA San Antonio Missions.

Prior to the 2010 season, Castro was rated the #57 prospect by Baseball America. Castro played in the 2010 All-Star Futures Game.

Michael Collins

Michael Collins (July 18, 1984 in Canberra, Australia) is a minor league baseball infielder in the San Diego Padres organization. From Australia, he signed as an undrafted free agent by the Anaheim Angels in 2001, and currently plays for the Class AA San Antonio Missions.

Jaff Decker

Robert "Robbie" Erlin is a starting pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft.^[1] Texas traded Erlin along with fellow Double-A pitcher Joe Wieland to the Padres for reliever Mike Adams at the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31, 2011.^[2]

Reymond Fuentes was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He was the 28th overall pick of the draft, and was given a $1,134,000 signing bonus. He is the cousin of Giants outfielder Carlos Beltran. Reymond is 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds.

On December 6, 2010, he was traded to the San Diego Padres along with Anthony Rizzo, Casey Kelly, and Eric Patterson for First Baseman Adrian Gonzalez.^[3][4] Fuentes was ranked between the sixth and 10th best prospect in the Red Sox organization.^[5]

Rocky Gale (born February 22, 1988 in Portland, Oregon) is an American professional baseball player who is currently in the San Diego Padres minor league organization. He attended the University of Portland where he was named the West Coast Conference defensive player of the year before being drafted by the Padres in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. Gale, a catcher, made his professional debut in 2010 with the Eugene Emeralds of the Class-A Short Season Northwest League.

Early life

Gale was born in Portland, Oregon on February 22, 1988.^[6] He grew up in Yoncalla, Oregon, later moving to Keizer, Oregon where he attended junior high school.^[7] After graduated from North Salem High School in Salem, Oregon, Gale was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 49^th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign.^[8] In 2006, Gale began attending the University of Portland where he played baseball with the Portland Pilots.^[7] Gale also played with the Corvallis Knights, a collegiate summer league team.^[7] Gale batted .254 during his freshman season, .261 in his sophomore season, .194 in his junior season and .347 in his senior as a member of the Pilots.^[9] After the season, he was named to the first-team all-West Coast Conference (WCC) team and was the conference's defensive player of the year.^[10] Gale was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 24^th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of Portland.^[11]

Professional career

After being drafted by the Padres in 2010, Gale made his debut in professional baseball debut with the minor league Eugene Emeralds, a team which he grew up watching.^[7] During the season, Gale split playing time the Emeralds other catcher, Emmanuel Quiles.^[7] Eugene manager Greg Riddoch said that Gale has a "tremendous makeup".^[7] Furthermore, Emeralds pitcher Dexter Carter commented that when working with Gale "he knows exactly what's going on".^[7] Gale's parents, who lived in the area, would drive to his games to watch him play.^[7] On the season, Gale batted .292 with 47 hits, five doubles and 16 runs batted in (RBIs) in 43 games played.^[12] He was called-up to the Portland Beavers, who were members of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, but did not play. On Labor Day 2011 Rocky got his first Professional league home run.

Personal

Rocky has been from Short Season A ball to AAA to A ball where he helped his team make the playoffs Gale's father, Paul Gale, was a coach Western Baptist College/Corban University, Salem, OR. He is also a scout for the Houston Astros.^[7] Rocky Gale married his wife Leah in December 2009, after dating her since high school.^[7] His mother's name is Janice Gale, and he has two brothers, K. C. and Ross, and a sister; Hannah.^[7]

Cedric Hunter

Cedric Hunter (born March 10, 1988 in Decatur, Georgia) is a minor league baseball outfielder in the San Diego Padres organization. He was selected by the Padres in the 3rd Round (93rd overall) of the 2006 amateur entry draft, and currently plays for the Class AAA Tucson Padres.

Will Inman

Will Inman (born February 6, 1987 in Danville, Virginia) is a minor league baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Prior to playing professionally, he attended Tunstall High School in Dry Fork, Virginia. He was drafted in the third round of the 2005 amateur draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, beginning his professional career that season. He split the year between the Helena Brewers and AZL Brewers, going a combined 6-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 14 games (five starts). He struck out 59 batters in 47 innings of work. In 2006, he pitched for the West Virginia Power, going 10-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 23 games (20 starts) and striking out 134 batters in 110²⁄₃ innings of work.

Before the 2007 season, Baseball America named Inman the 91st best baseball prospect. He began the season in the Brewers organization, playing for the Brevard County Manatees and Huntsville Stars. However, on July 25, he was traded with Joe Thatcher and minor leaguer Steve Garrison for relief pitcher Scott Linebrink. He finished the season with the San Antonio Missions in the Padres system. Overall, he went 8-11 with a 3.28 ERA in 28 games started, striking out 180 batters in 159¹⁄₃ innings.

He pitched for the Missions again in 2008, going 9-8 with a 3.52 ERA in 28 starts, striking out 140 batters in 135¹⁄₃ innings. His 2009 season was split between the Missions and Portland Beavers, and he went a combined 7-9 with a 4.79 ERA in 27 starts. He began the 2010 season with the Portland Beavers.^[13]

Craig Italiano

Thomas Craig Italiano (born July 22, 1986 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA) is a professional baseball pitcher currently in the San Diego Padres organization

He attended Flower Mound High School, in Flower Mound, Texas, USA.

Draft

Italiano was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2005 amateur draft. He signed for a bonus of $725,000.^[14]

Professional career

Italiano began his professional career in 2005, pitching for the AZL Athletics. He went 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in six games (three starts).

In 2006, Italiano pitched for the Kane County Cougars, going 0-1 with a 3.50 ERA in four starts. He pitched for the Cougars again in 2007, going 0-3 with a 12.71 ERA in six starts.

He split the 2008 season between Kane County and the Stockton Ports. He performed very well for the Cougars, going 7-0 with a 1.16 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 14 games started. With the Ports, however, he did not pitch as well - he went only 1-4 with a 9.90 ERA in 14 games (five starts).

Italiano began the 2009 season with the Ports, going 5-6 with a 5.63 ERA in 16 starts. On July 5, he was traded with Ryan Webb and a player to be named later to the Padres for Scott Hairston. The PTBNL ended up being Sean Gallagher. He finished the season with the Lake Elsinore Storm, going 0-1 with a 1.44 ERA in 19 relief appearances for them. Overall, he went 5-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 35 games (16 starts). On September 15, 2010, Italiano was designated for assignment by the Padres.

Jesus Lopez

Jesus Lopez (born September 12, 1987 in Guasave, Mexico) is a minor league baseball infielder for the San Diego Padres organization. He was signed by the Padres in 2006, and currently plays for the Class AA San Antonio Missions.

Nick Schmidt

Nick Schmidt (born October 10, 1985) is a pitcher^[15] who was drafted by the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball 23rd overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.^[16] He played college baseball for the Arkansas Razorbacks.^[17]

Nick Schmidt was born in St. Louis, Missouri and attended St. John Vianney High School. Schmidt was the 2006 Southeastern Conference pitcher of the year as a sophomore. He enjoyed success while on the Arkansas' campus, being named an All-American as a freshman. Schmidt is the all-time strike out leader for the Razorbacks.^[18] His range in speed is comfortably in the 88-92 range and also includes a solid slider and changeup, which provides a three-pitch system for Schmidt. He has the ability along with the size and strength to survive long innings while maintaining good velocity, and the natural pitching ability of Schmidt gives him the ability to get batters out even without his very best stuff.^[19]

Schmidt was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 23rd overall pick of the 2007 amateur draft and signed with the Padres as of June 28, 2007. Schmidt missed the entire 2008 season after having reconstructive surgery on his elbow.^[20]

Joe Wieland

Joseph "Joe" Wieland is a starting pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft. Wieland was named Nevada State Player of the Year by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Reno Gazette-Journal while at Bishop Manogue High School.^[1] He committed to playing college baseball at San Diego State before signing with the Rangers. He threw a no-hitter against the San Antonio Missions, the Padres Double-A affiliate, on July 29, 2011. On July 31 at the non-waiver trade deadline, Texas traded Wieland along with fellow Double-A pitcher Robbie Erlin to the Padres for reliever Mike Adams.^[2]
