Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (originally known as Scooby-Doo! Mystery, Inc.) is the eleventh incarnation of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo animated series, and the first incarnation not to be first-run on Saturday mornings. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network and is a reboot[citation needed] of the franchise.

It is the first series franchise with Shaggy voiced by Matthew Lillard, who portrayed the character in two live-action films, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). Casey Kasem (the original Shaggy) remains present in this series by voicing Shaggy's father (Casey had also previously voiced Uncle Albert in the last series, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!). Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated premiered on Cartoon Network in the US on July 12, 2010 and new episodes aired every Monday at 7:00 p.m. A special sneak peek episode, which also serves as the pilot, was aired on April 5, 2010 and then also made its UK premiere on Boomerang on October 25, 2010 and also Cartoon Network on March 4, 2011. It aired in Australia on Nine Network on February 12, 2011; following the Saturday Morning Cartoons. In the UK, the CBBC channel are running all 26 episodes as one series with "Mystery Solvers Club State Finals" being aired on August 5th 2011.

As the case with the last three Scooby-Doo shows, the characters are redesigned yet again, but this time with a more stylized, retro look; the gang also wears their original outfits from the 1969 series, but Velma also has red bows in her hair. Additionally, it is much darker and more realistic than the previous Scooby-Doo shows, in a vein similar to Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. In a difference from previous installments in the franchise, the series is presented in a serial format, with an overarching story arc connecting each episode to the next. Also, at the end of each episode there is always a different "meddling kids" quote.

According to producer/writer Mitch Watson, the series has completed one season so far, with a total of 26 episodes already produced. New episodes were supposed to continue airing after episode thirteen, but did not air due to problems between the producers and the network over contracts. Despite the dispute, new episodes continued to air on Teletoon. A fourteenth episode, "Mystery Solvers Club State Finals", was released on iTunes and Amazon on January 31, 2011. The episode first aired on Teletoon on March 19, 2011 and the remaining twelve episodes continued to air until June 11, 2011. Then Cartoon Network began airing the remaining 13 episodes of the first season on May 3, 2011, though they dubbed it as a second season. It started with "Mystery Solvers Club State Finals" on May 3rd and continued to air the remaining episodes until July 26, 2011. The season finale ends with a cliffhanger.

A second season has been announced but no announcement has been made of when or if it will air.

Plot

Season 1

Fredrick "Fred" Jones, Jr., Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, and Scooby-Doo make up the team of teenage mystery solvers who live in a small town called Crystal Cove, the self-proclaimed "Most Hauntedest Place on Earth". The town's long history of strange disappearances and ghost and monster sightings form the basis for its thriving tourist industry, and as such, the gang's parents and some people (mostly Mayor Fred Jones Sr. and Sheriff Bronson Stone) are not happy that their children are debunking all the supernatural goings-on that bring in so much revenue as the overwrought schemes of charlatans and criminals.

In addition to the traditional cases they always solve, the team finds itself being nudged into the uncovering of a dark secret that is hidden in the past of Crystal Cove, covered up by parties unknown. The new Mystery Incorporated is following cryptic hints from a faceless mystery-man known only as "Mr. E." (a play on "mystery"). The new Mystery Incorporated is unearthing the legend of a cursed Conquistador treasure, the secret history of Crystal Cove's founding Darrow Family, and the mysterious, unsolved case involving four mystery-solving youths and their pet—the original Mystery Incorporated. Standing in the way of their solving this mystery, however, are the romantic entanglements pulling the kids apart: Shaggy finds himself unable to put his new romance with Velma ahead of his longtime friendship with Scooby, while Daphne pines for a trap-obsessed Fred, who obliviously struggles to realize he shares her feelings too.

As they investigate further into the mystery about the curse of Crystal Cove, they discover that a creature known as "The Freak of Crystal Cove" threatens and stalks anyone who comes near the haunted treasure. They uncover the Freak's true identity to be Mayor Fred Jones Sr. who reveals that Fred's true parents are Brad and Judy from the original Mystery, Inc. In the aftermath, Fred goes off to find his real parents and breaks his engagement with Daphne, declaring that "Mystery, Inc. is dead". Shaggy's parents send Shaggy to a military academy and Scooby-Doo to a farm. As Professor Pericles flaunts his two pieces of the Planospheric Disc, he takes off and Scooby-Doo vows to get the gang back together to continue pursuing him.

Season 2

According to the official Warner Brothers website, the plot of Episode 52 will tie into the plot of the first episode of the series. However, it was not announced when (or if) the new season will air. A statement was made that it can take up to a year to produce episodes. According to WB, Dynomutt, as well as many other Hannah-Barbera characters, will be making cameo appearances within the season.[1]

Episodic online video game

Cartoon Network released an episodic video game on their website called Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated: Crystal Cove Online, which will have a new mystery every week based on the aired episode.[2] The player takes control of Shaggy Rogers and Scooby Doo as they explore Crystal Cove, solving mysteries and helping other citizens with the rest of the gang. There are 52 pedestals for each monster, although the show is planned to have 26 episodes. However, there are still closed doors, as the new episodes are produced, in due time those doors will be opened. The number of episodes going to be shown is still not known.
