Directed Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQDEIX), often abbreviated DEI, is a producer of car security and audio products, including Viper car alarms and accessories. It is a subsidiary of DEI Holdings.

History

DEI was founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1982 by Darrell and Kathy Issa. In 1986, the company moved to Southern California; its headquarters are now located in the San Diego suburb of Vista. Darrell Issa was elected to the House of Representatives in the year 2000; the Issas subsequently sold their controlling shares in Directed Electronics, and the company is now managed by Jim Minarik.
