Delhi Public School, Rourkela (abbreviated as DPS Rourkela) is one of the premier and most prestigious schools in the district of Sundergarh, Orissa, Sector-14, Rourkela. The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. Delhi Public School is run by Delhi Public School Society.

DPS Rourkela is one of the mother schools of the DPS Society, i.e., it was directly established by the society and not franchised. The school has produced IITians, NITians, NTSE Scholars and CBSE Board examination state toppers. DPS Rourkela has produced good results in competitive exams such as IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIIMS and CBSE-PMT. It's students have also made it to prominent colleges such as the Maulana Azad Medical College, National Defence Academy, National Institute of Design, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Symbiosis Law, etc.

Graduates of the school have also been placed in premier International Universities, in countries such as the United States of America, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, etc. These include - University of Toronto, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University, Carleton University, York University (including the Schulich School of Business), Syracuse University, University of Waterloo, University of Ottawa, Technische Universitat Kaiserslautern, RMIT University, Hult International Business School, etc. As such, it ranks among the top schools in Orissa when it comes to having a strong alumni network abroad.

The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education for classes from Nursery to XII. The principal is Sidhartha Ratha.

History

The co-aid school was established on 20 August 1992, in collaboration with the public sector undertaking Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) SAIL. They provided the land (16 acres) and assistance. The school was functioning first in Sector-18 and in 2004 it was shifted to Sector-14, Rourkela.

Facilities

The school has facilities for cricket, football, basketball, tennis, badminton, etc. Coaches train in these sports. DPS Rourkela provides opportunities for the students to develop their interests in public speaking, quizzing, environment awareness and conservation, dance, music, and art.

The school has a Primary Resource Room, Science Laboratories, Computer Rooms with TV, LCD and OHP facilities, playgrounds and gardens and a library.

Courses

The school has nearly 1,500 students from Kindergarten (Nursery), Class I to XII, with Science at Senior Secondary level.

It prepares the students of Class X and XII for CBSE examinations AISSE and AISSCE.

Activities

Students are involved in various extracurricular activities beyond academia. They are divided into four houses - Ganges (blue), Jhelum (Yellow), Chenab (Red) and Yamuna (Green).

Activities include:

• Inter-school and inter-state games
• Co-curricular activities
• Inter-school cultural talent competitions
• Excursions

The purpose of these activities is to a foster a healthy environment to help develop the overall personality of the student. This helps them develop skills in leadership, team work, verbal communication proficiency, cultural proficiency, multi-tasking, etc.
