Dahima

Dahima

The Dahima or Daima are a gotra of tribes in India who worship Mati Dadhimati as their Kuldevi (family deity). They are primarily descendants of the sage Dadhichi. Dadheech Brahmins are also known as Dahima Brahmins, and are the most abundant community among Dahimas.

Description

James Tod recorded the Dahima, a tribe of Rajputs, amongst the 36 royal races of India.[1] Dayma Ahirs are found in Wazirabad (Gurgaon) village. In addition to Dahima Brahmins and Dahima Ahirs, there are Dahima Rajputs, and Jats. They were the lords of Biana, and bore a reputation for deeds of chivalry.

Colonel Tod considered the Dahima Ahir tribe to be extinct, but there are three or four Ahir Dahima villages in Baghpat. There are also Dhahima Ahirs and Jats in the same neighbourhood.[2]

Dadhimati Mata Temple lies in Nagaur district of Rajasthan.
